Accounts: How to Change the Owner of a Service Account or Sponsored Account

Before You Begin

  • You must be the current owner of the service account or the sponsored account to update the owner.
  • This process does not affect who has delegated access to a service account's email. The new owner will need to log into the Service Account's email and update the delegated users as needed.

Change the owner of a service account or sponsored account through the self-service portal.

Instructions

Change Ownership of a Service Account

  1. Go to https://identity.louisville.edu.
  2. Enter your user ID and click NEXT.
  3. Enter your password and click NEXT.
  4. Click the USERS tab.
  5. Under Step 1, search for and select the service account.
  6. Review the service account information. The current owner appears as Supervisor on the right.
  7. Scroll to Step 2 and select Update personal information from the drop-down menu.
  8. In Step 3, click Supervisor on the right. A pop-up window appears.
  9. Search for and select the new owner by last name, first name, department, position title, or primary email. Check the box next to their name and click ADD.
  10. Both you and the new owner appear under Current Managers.
  11. Remove yourself as owner by clicking the X next to your name. If you do not remove yourself, you remain an owner.
  12. Click DONE and scroll to Step 4.
  13. Enter a comment in the comment box.
  14. Click SUBMIT REQUEST. A confirmation window appears.
  15. Refresh the page, search for the service account, and verify the new owner appears in the account information.

Change Ownership of a Sponsored Account

  1. Go to https://identity.louisville.edu.
  2. Enter your user ID and click NEXT.
  3. Enter your password and click NEXT.
  4. Click the USERS tab.
  5. Under Step 1, search for and select the sponsored account.
  6. Review the sponsored account information. The current owner appears as Supervisor on the right.
  7. Scroll to Step 2 and select Update personal information from the drop-down menu.
  8. In Step 3, click Supervisor in the Manager’s Information box. A pop-up window appears.
  9. Search for and select the new owner by last name, first name, department, position title, or primary email. Check the box next to their name and click ADD.
  10. Both you and the new owner appear under Current Managers.
  11. Remove yourself as owner by clicking the X next to your name. If you do not remove yourself, you remain an owner.
  12. Click DONE. The new owner appears in the Manager’s Information box.
  13. Scroll to Step 4 and enter a comment in the comment box.
  14. Click SUBMIT REQUEST. A confirmation window appears.
  15. Refresh the page, search for the sponsored account, and verify the new owner appears in the account information.

Outcome

After completing these steps, the new owner will be listed for the service or sponsored account. You will see confirmation on the screen and in the account details.
