Accounts: How to Change the Owner of a Service Account or Sponsored Account

Summary

Change the owner of a service or sponsored account using the Identity Access Management portal if the current owner leaves or no longer manages the account. Only the current owner can complete this process. This change does not affect delegated email access for service accounts.

Before You Begin

  • You must be the current owner of the service account or the sponsored account to update the owner.
  • This process does not affect who has delegated access to a service account's email. The new owner will need to log into the Service Account's email and update the delegated users as needed.
  • Have YOUR UoL login credentials handy.

Instructions

Change Ownership of a Service Account

  1. Go to Password and Account Management.
  2. Enter your personal UofL login credentials,  NOT the service account user ID).
  3. Click SIGN IN.
  4. Click the USER MANAGEMENT tab.
  5. Search for the service account by user ID (Service Account user ID).
  6. Click the MANAGE PROFILE tab.
  7. Review the service account information. The current owner’s information will appear as SUPERVISOR on the right side of the screen.
  8. Remove yourself as owner by clicking the X next to your name. If you do not remove yourself, you remain an owner.
  9. Click on the SUPERVISOR field.
  10. Search for and select the new owner by last name, first name, department, position title, or primary email. Check the box next to their name and click ADD.
  11. Enter comments/reasons in the comment box.
  12. Click SUBMIT. A confirmation window will appear.
  13. Refresh the page, search for the service account, and verify the new owner appears in the account information.

 

Change Ownership of a Sponsored Account

  1. Go to Password and Account Management.
  2. Enter your personal UofL login credentials,  NOT the service account user ID).E
  3. Click SIGN IN.
  4. Click the USER MANAGEMENT tab.
  5. Search for the service account by user ID (sponsored account user ID).
  6. Click the MANAGE PROFILE tab.
  7. Review the sponsored account information. The current owner’s information will appear as SUPERVISOR on the right side of the screen.
  8. Remove yourself as owner by clicking the X next to your name. If you do not remove yourself, you remain an owner.
  9. Click on the SUPERVISOR field.
  10. Search for and select the new owner by last name, first name, department, position title, or primary email. Check the box next to their name and click ADD.
  11. Enter comments/reasons in the comment box.
  12. Click SUBMIT. A confirmation window will appear.
  13. Refresh the page, search for the service account, and verify the new owner appears in the account information.

Outcome

After completing these steps, the new owner will be listed for the service or sponsored account. You will see confirmation on the screen and in the account details.
