Standard Dialing Pattern
Objective or Task:
Follow the correct dialing pattern for different types of phone calls using University phone services.
Instructions:
1. Calls Within the University
- Dial the full seven-digit number.
2. Calls Outside the University (Local Calling Area Only)
- Dial the seven-digit number.
3. Authorization Code (ELD) Calls
- Obtain your ELD authorization code.
- Dial the number as required for international calls.
- Enter your ELD code when prompted.
- Billing starts only after the call is answered.
- No charges for unanswered or busy signals.
- ELD code is required for international calls (including Canada) using University administrative 852-XXXX lines.
4. Long Distance Calls
- For USA: Dial 1 + area code + seven-digit telephone number.
- For Canada: Dial 1 + area code + seven-digit telephone number + ELD code.
- For International: Dial 011 + country code + city code + telephone number + # key + ELD authorization code + # key.
5. All Toll-Free Calls
- Dial 1 + toll-free number + telephone number.
6. Directory Assistance
- For local calls: Dial 1 + 411.
- For long distance: Dial 1 + area code + 555-1212.
- Use directory assistance only if you cannot find the number in the directory.
- The University is billed for this service; costs are charged to individual departments.
7. Conference Calls
- Complete a work order for AT&T Reservation-less Conference service.
- Include contact name, department name, telephone number, email address and speed code for billing.
8. Fax Calls
- For USA: Dial 1 + area code + seven-digit telephone number.
- For Canada: Dial 1 + area code + seven-digit telephone number + ELD code.
- For International: Dial 011 + country code + city code + telephone number + # key + pause key + ELD authorization code + # key.
Outcome:
You will be able to place calls and send faxes using the correct dialing pattern for each type of call ensuring successful connections and proper billing.
