Passwords: How to Reset and Retrieve Forgotten Passwords

Before You Begin

  • You must have your UofL user ID (ex: ulinkid01) to reset or retrieve your password. 
  • Make sure you have access to your recovery email or phone number.
  • Your new password must meet the University’s password policy.
  • Service account holders must log in with the service account credentials.

 

Instructions

Resetting your password:

Students and Employees

  1. Go to Password and Account Management.
  2. Enter your UofL user ID and current password.
  3. Click Sign In.
  4. Click the My Passwords tab.
  5. Create a new password following the on-screen requirements. 
  6. Enter your new password. Make sure it meets the University’s password policy, which is displayed on the right side of the screen.
    • Minimum 15 characters.
    • Avoid dictionary words or previously used passwords.
    • Use a unique password for each account.
    • Meet complexity requirements (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters).
  7. Click the RESET button.
  8. A pop-up window will confirm your password change. You will also receive a confirmation email or text message.
  9. Allow up to 2 minutes for the password to populate through the system. 
  10. Log into outlook.office365.com before trying to access Blackboard or other systems.

 

Service Accounts

  1. Go to Password and Account Management.
  2. Enter the service account UofL user ID and current password.
  3. Click Sign In.
  4. Click the My Passwords tab.
  5. Create a new password following the on-screen requirements. 
  6. Enter the new password for the service account. Make sure it meets the University’s password policy, which is displayed on the right side of the screen.
    • Minimum 15 characters.
    • Avoid dictionary words or previously used passwords.
    • Use a unique password for each account.
    • Meet complexity requirements (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters).
  7. Click the RESET button.
  8. A pop-up window will confirm your password change. You will also receive a confirmation email or text message.
  9. Allow up to 2 minutes for the password to populate through the system. 

 

Sponsored Users

  1. Go to Password and Account Management.
  2. Enter the sponsored account user ID and current password.
  3. Click SIGN IN.
  4. Click the MY PASSWORDS tab.
  5. Enter your new password. Make sure it meets the University’s password policy, which is displayed on the right side of the screen.
    • Minimum 15 characters.
    • Avoid dictionary words or previously used passwords.
    • Use a unique password for each account.
    • Meet complexity requirements (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters).
  6. Click the RESET button.
  7. A pop-up window will confirm your password change. You will also receive a confirmation email or text message.

 

If you forgot your password:

  1. Go to Password and Account Management.
  2. Click Forgot Your Password.
  3. Click NEXT.
  4. Enter your first namelast name and username/user ID.
  5. Select where you want the recovery PIN sent (recovery email addressrecovery mobile phone number or both).
  6. Click SEND PIN.
  7. Retrieve the PIN that was sent, and enter it.
  8. Click VALIDATE PIN.
  9. Once the PIN is validated, enter your new password. Make sure it meets the university’s password policy, which is displayed on the right side of the screen.
    • Minimum 15 characters.
    • Avoid dictionary words or previously used passwords.
    • Use a unique password for each account.
    • Meet complexity requirements (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters).
  10. Click RESET PASSWORD.
  11. You will see a confirmation message when your password is successfully reset. You will also receive an email or text message.

Outcome

You will have a new password for your UofL account and can access university systems securely.
