Overview of Service

Microsoft Teams offers a secure, cloud-based workspace for real-time messaging, video conferencing, file collaboration and project management. Key features include:

  • Persistent chat (1:1 and group)
  • Scheduled and ad-hoc video/audio meetings
  • File sharing and co-authoring with SharePoint and OneDrive integration
  • Customizable channels for team/project organization
  • Integration with Microsoft 365 apps (Planner, OneNote, etc.)
  • Collaboration with internal and external users

  • Core Activities:

    • Creating and managing Teams and Channels
    • Hosting and joining meetings (video/audio/screen sharing)
    • Sharing and collaborating on files
    • Integrating with other Microsoft 365 services
    • Managing notifications and team memberships
  • Associated Platforms:
    Microsoft Teams (desktop, web, mobile), SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Planner, OneNote.

  • Collaboration:
    The Teams service is managed by ITS. Integration with external vendors and partners is supported as needed.

Boundaries and Constraints

  • Only university-issued accounts may create or manage Teams.
  • External guest access is permitted but must comply with university security policies.
  • Teams is not intended for confidential or highly regulated data unless approved by ITS Security.
  • Personal device support is limited to Teams app installation and basic troubleshooting.
