Request Accounts: Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Before You Begin

  • All university employees receive a VPN1 account by default.
  • University students do not receive a VPN1 account by default. University students can request a VPN1 account via the Identity Access Management portal.
  • University students and employees can request VPN2, VPN3 and VPN4 via the Identity Access Management portal if access to specialized data is needed.

Objective or Task

Request a Virtual Private Network (VPN) account using the Identity Access Management portal.

Instructions

  1. Go to https://identity.louisville.edu.
  2. Enter your user ID and click NEXT.
  3. Enter your password and click NEXT.
  4. Click the REQUESTS tab.
  5. Select REQUEST ACCESS in the new tab.
  6. Under Step 1, check the Include Self box. Your last name, first name, and user ID will appear.
  7. On Step 2 (“Select resources and permissions”), select Active Directory Groups from the Access Catalog dropdown menu.
  8. Select the VPN you need from the available options and click DONE.
    • Employees automatically receive VPN1. Only request VPN2, VPN3 or VPN4 if you need access to specialized data.
    • Students are not automatically given VPN1 and can request it here. Only request VPN2, VPN3 or VPN4 if you need specialized access.
  9. Under Step 3 (“Specify access period”), select PERMANENT.
  10. On Step 4, enter a comment in the comment box (required). Explain why you need a VPN.
  11. Click the SUBMIT REQUEST button.
  12. Look for a confirmation message on the screen.

Outcome

After your request is approved, you will receive an email with instructions on downloading the VPN client and using your VPN account.
