Accounts: How to Manage Your Password

Before You Begin

  • Make sure you have access to your account email or registered phone number.
  • Confirm you know your current password or have access to password recovery options.
  • Prepare any necessary credentials or verification methods.

Objective or Task

You will reset, change, or unlock your account password to maintain secure access.

Instructions

  1. Go to the Identity Management Portal: https://identity.louisville.edu
  2. Enter your UofL userID and click Forgot your password? or select Change Password.
  3. Complete the verification process (email, SMS, or security questions).
  4. Enter your new password following these guidelines:
    • Minimum 15 characters.
    • Avoid dictionary words or previously used passwords.
    • Use a unique password for each account.
    • Meet complexity requirements (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, special characters).
  5. Click Submit to finalize the change.
  6. If your account is locked, select Unlock Account and follow the prompts.
  7. Wait up to 30 minutes if the account does not unlock immediately.

Outcome

After completing these steps, your password will be updated or your account unlocked. You will be able to log in securely with your new credentials.
