Objective

Enter an approved disciplinary action for an employee in Workday and complete all required manager steps.


Instructions

Prepare the Disciplinary Action Document

  1. Email Employee Relations to request the disciplinary action template.
  2. Add your departmental letterhead to the template.
  3. Complete the disciplinary action template for your employee.
  4. Email the completed template to Employee Relations for review and feedback.
  5. Update the document based on Employee Relations feedback.
  6. Email the revised document to Employee Relations for final approval.
  7. Wait for written approval from Employee Relations.
  8. Provide a printed copy of the approved disciplinary action document to the employee.
  9. Review and discuss the disciplinary action document with the employee.
  10. Obtain the employee’s signature on the document.

Start the Disciplinary Action in Workday

  1. Sign in to Workday.
  2. Enter Start Disciplinary Action for Employee in the Search field.
  3. Select Start Disciplinary Action for Employee.
  4. Enter the employee’s name or use the prompt icon to select the employee.
  5. Select Disciplinary Action in the Review field.
  6. Select the appropriate disciplinary action progression step.
  7. Select United States of America in the Disciplinary Action Reasons country field.
  8. Select the violation category that matches the approved disciplinary action letter.
  9. Review the Related Disciplinary Action field if it auto-populates from a prior action.
  10. Enter the Period Start Date for when the first incident was observed.
  11. Enter the Period End Date for when the incident occurred.
  12. Select Submit.

Complete the Manager Evaluation Task

  1. Open your Workday Inbox.
  2. Select Manager Evaluation under the Actions tab.
  3. Select Add to open the attachment section.
  4. Select Attach and upload the Employee Relations–approved disciplinary action document.
  5. Select the disciplinary action type used in the approved document.
  6. Select the check icon to save.
  7. Select Submit to route the evaluation for Employee Relations approval.

Enter Manager Meeting Comments

  1. Review the disciplinary action documentation with the employee.
  2. Sign in to Workday.
  3. Open your Workday Inbox.
  4. Select Manager Evaluation under the Actions tab.
  5. Select Edit in the Manager Acknowledge section.
  6. Select Acknowledge Review – Provide Date of Employee Discussion.
  7. Enter the date of the meeting with the employee.
  8. Enter notes from the discussion in the Comment field.
  9. Select the check icon to save.
  10. Select Submit.
  11. Review the next steps displayed on the confirmation screen.

Outcome

The disciplinary action is documented in Workday, routed to the employee and required administrative roles, and stored in the employee’s record according to the selected disciplinary action type.
