Objective or Task
Create and submit a job requisition in Workday so Human Resources can review, approve, and post the position for recruitment.
Before You Begin
- You have access to Workday as a Primary Recruiter or Employment Executive.
- The position details and funding information are available.
- You know whether the requisition is for a new, replacement, or evergreen-linked position.
Instructions
Start the Job Requisition

From the Workday landing page, enter Create Job Requisition in the search bar or open it from the Recruiter Hub shortcut.

Complete the Create Job Requisition prompt.
- Select a requisition in Copy Details from Existing Requisition if you want to reuse details.
- Select the appropriate Supervisory Organization.
- Leave Worker Type set to Employee.

Select OK.

Select the correct position option.
- Select Create New Position for a new PM position.
- Select For Existing Position if an unfilled or future PM position exists.
- Continue if hiring into a JM supervisory organization.
Enter Recruiting Information
- Complete the Recruiting Information section.
- Enter the Number of Openings.
- Select the Reason for the requisition.
- Enter Replacement For if applicable.
- Select the appropriate Recruiting Instruction.
- Enter the Recruiting Start Date.
- Enter the Target Hire Date.
- Enter the Target End Date for fixed‑term roles if required.
Enter Job Details

Complete the Job Details section.
- Enter the Job Posting Title.
- Enter the Justification.
- Select the Job Profile.
- Enter the Job Description for internal review.
- Enter the Job Description for Advertisement.
- Select the Worker Sub‑Type.
- Select the Time Type.
- Enter the Primary Location.
- Review the Primary Job Posting Location.
- Review and adjust Scheduled Weekly Hours if needed.

Complete Contract Details if this is a faculty requisition.
- Select the Employee Contract Type.
Complete Additional Sections
- Review or update Link to Evergreen Requisition if applicable.
- Complete Qualifications if desired.
- Review Organizations and confirm costing information.
- Upload required documents in Attachments.
Enter Compensation and Assign Roles
- Complete the Compensation section.
- Enter salary or hourly amounts.
- Enter allowances if applicable.
- Enter end dates for fixed‑term compensation when required.
- Assign recruiter roles.
- Add the Primary Recruiter responsible for managing the requisition.
Submit and Route for Approval

Review all information on the Summary page.

Enter posting details in Comments.

Select Submit.

Open Edit Additional Data from your inbox.

Enter the Costing Organization for job advertising.

Select Submit.
-
Review the requisition when it returns to your inbox and make no changes.

Complete Change Organization Assignments if a new position was created.
Final Steps
- Allow the requisition to route through HR, Compensation, and Budget approvals.
- Confirm the Employment Executive posts the job after approval.
- Complete the Search Committee task if prompted.
- Review Underutilization Audit information on the requisition when needed.
Outcome
The job requisition is approved and posted, allowing candidates to apply and the recruitment process to begin.
