Before You Begin

Ensure you have access or request access to your department’s website or CMS from OCM or your content lead.
Review UofL web policies and accessibility guidelines.

Objective or Task

Learn how to access, manage and optimize UofL websites using Drupal, Plone and Siteimprove.

Instructions

Access and Manage Drupal

  • Log in to your department’s Drupal site with your UofL credentials.
  • Use the Drupal CMS User Guide for instructions on creating, editing, and organizing content, customizing themes and managing site settings
  • Attend UofL or vendor-led Drupal training sessions for hands-on learning.
  • For technical issues, submit a service request or contact web@louisville.edu.

Access and Manage Plone

  • Log in to your Plone site with your UofL credentials.
  • Use the Plone 4 User Help Center for step-by-step instructions on editing content, managing pages and maintaining ADA compliance.
  • Join the WebGuides community for peer support and monthly meetings.
  • For technical issues, submit a service request.

Integrate and Use Siteimprove

  • Siteimprove integrates with both Drupal and Plone to provide accessibility checks, broken link detection, SEO analysis, and content quality reports.
  • Install the Siteimprove plugin for your CMS (see Drupal Siteimprove Guide and Plone Siteimprove Integration).
  • Use Siteimprove’s dashboard to monitor accessibility, SEO and quality assurance metrics.
  • Attend Siteimprove training courses for advanced features and certification.

Transitioning and Support

  • All UofL units must move to Drupal as part of the Web Improvement Project. Legacy Plone sites must be migrated by March 31, 2026.
  • For migration timelines, training and support, contact your content or technology lead or submit a service request.

Outcome

After completing these steps, you will be able to manage UofL websites using Drupal and Plone, optimize content with Siteimprove, and maintain compliance with university web standards.
