Objective or Task

Initiate an academic promotion and tenure action for a faculty member in Workday.


Instructions

  1. Open the faculty member’s profile in Workday.

  2. Select Actions, hover over Job Change, and select Transfer, Promote, or Change Job.

  3. On the Start page, update the Effective Date for the promotion.

    • Promotion actions most commonly use July 1 as the effective date.
  4. For Why are you making this change?, select:

    • Academic Personnel
    • Promotion
  5. Do not change the Manager, Team, or Location fields.

  6. Ignore the Next Pay Period checkbox and select Start.

  7. On the Job page:

    • Select the faculty member’s primary position.
    • Ensure the action is not being applied to an additional job such as chair or program director.
  8. In Job Profile, select the appropriate promoted rank.

    • Carefully choose the correct job family, such as term or tenure‑eligible.
    • Job Title and Business Title will update automatically based on the selected job profile.
  9. Select Next to proceed past the Location page.

  10. On the Details page, review the Administrative and Academic sections.

    • Do not modify a term faculty member’s end date.
  11. On the Attachments page, upload the P‑103 document.

    • Upload a revised P‑103 if the original is no longer accurate.
  12. Select Next to proceed past the Organizations page.

  13. On the Compensation page:

    • Adjust the base salary using either an Amount Change or Percent Change.
    • If the updated salary exceeds $100,000, add the compensation plan Total Base Pay Over $100,000.
  14. Review the summary page to confirm all information is correct.

  15. Enter a supporting Comment.

  16. Select Submit to complete the promotion action.


Outcome

The academic promotion and tenure action is submitted in Workday and routed to Faculty Affairs for review, approval, and completion of academic appointment and tenure updates where applicable.
