Objective or Task
Process an involuntary termination for an employee in Workday.
Instructions

From the Workday landing page, enter Terminate Employee in the search bar and select the task.

Enter the Employee name and select OK.

In the Reason section, select the appropriate Primary Reason from the Involuntary options.
- Add one or more Secondary Reasons if applicable.

In the Details section, enter the Termination Date, which represents the employee’s last active day and last day of pay.
- Termination dates may be future dated.

Review the automatically populated Last Day of Work and Pay Through Date fields.

Enter a Resignation Date if one applies.

In the Position Details section, select Close Position if the position should not be filled again.
- Once selected, this option cannot be changed.

Do not select Is this position available for overlap? for involuntary terminations.

Under Attachments, upload required supporting documentation and assign Termination as the category.
- Supporting documents may include reduction in force documentation, performance improvement plans, probationary documentation, or an after‑term letter.

Select Submit to route the termination for approval.
Outcome
The involuntary termination is submitted in Workday, future dated if applicable, and routed through the appropriate approval process with required documentation attached.
