Objective or Task

Set up onboarding for a new employee during the hire process in Workday.


Instructions

  1. From the Workday landing page, open your Workday Inbox.

  2. Locate and open the Onboarding Setup for Hire action.

  3. Review the pre‑populated Message and update it to reflect department‑specific or role‑specific information.

  4. In People to Meet, add or update individuals the new hire should meet with by entering names in the Select People field.

  5. Keep the Notify checkbox selected to send notifications to the people listed.

  6. Update the Notification Subject and Notification Message with details about the new hire, if needed.

  7. Under Helpful Contacts, add individuals the new hire should know about but does not need to meet with.

  8. Select the Notify checkbox if helpful contacts should be informed.

    • If notifying, update the Notification Subject and Notification Message.
  9. Select Submit to create the new employee’s onboarding dashboard.


Outcome

The new hire’s onboarding dashboard is created in Workday with welcome messages, onboarding tasks, people to meet, and helpful contacts displayed for their transition into the university.
