You will use this article to review and approve employee time off requests in Workday. Managers are responsible for approving time off submitted through the absence calendar and can review balances and request details before making a decision.

Objective or Task

Approve an employee’s time off request from your Workday inbox.


Before You Begin

  • Confirm you are a manager responsible for approving time off requests.
  • Ensure time off delegation is set up if you will be out of the office.
  • Review employee absence balances as needed before approving requests.

Instructions

  1. From the Workday landing page, open your Inbox and view items under Awaiting Action.
  2. Locate and select the time off request you need to review.
  3. Review the request details.
    a. Date for the requested time off.
    b. Type of time off requested.
    c. Requested hours or amount of time.
    d. Comments provided with the request.
  4. Select View Balances to review the employee’s available absence balances.
  5. Select Approve to approve the time off request.

Outcome

The employee’s time off request is approved and processed. The approved absence appears in the employee’s record and absence calendar.
