Summary

This article explains how HR Initiators and HR Partners can edit position restrictions in Workday for a filled or unfilled position. Position restrictions apply only when a position is open and affect future hires or transfers into the position.

Objective or Task

Edit hiring and position restriction details for a position in Workday.


Instructions

  1. From the Workday landing page, enter Edit Position Restrictions in the search bar and select the task.

  2. Enter the Position using the Position ID or the position name if it is filled.

  3. Select OK.

  4. In the Edit Position Restrictions screen, select the appropriate Position Change Reason.

    • Examples include changing time type, requesting a position review, or updating the job description.
  5. Update the following fields as needed based on the selected reason:

    • Job Posting Title
    • Earliest Hire Date
    • Job Profile
    • Job Description Summary
    • Job Description
    • Time Type
    • Worker Type
    • Worker Sub‑Type
  6. Do not update Location.

    • Use the Job Change – Update Location and Workspace process if a location change is required.
  7. Review any existing hiring restrictions and confirm updates apply only to future hires or transfers.

  8. Scroll down and add Comments or upload Supporting Documents, if required.

  9. Select Submit to route the update for approval.


Outcome

The position restrictions are updated in Workday and applied to future hires or transfers into the position based on the approved changes.
