This article explains how departments process faculty sabbatical leave in Workday. Units use this process after a sabbatical has been approved through the Office of the Provost to place the faculty member on sabbatical leave, adjust compensation if needed, and return the faculty member from leave at the end of the sabbatical period.

Objective or Task:

Process a faculty member’s sabbatical leave and related compensation changes in Workday.

Instructions:

Put the Faculty Member on Sabbatical Leave

  1. Open the faculty member’s Worker Profile.
  2. Select Absence.
  3. Select Add Absence.
  4. Select Select Date Range.
  5. Enter the From and To dates.
  6. Select Other Absence Types.
  7. Select the appropriate sabbatical Type.
  8. Select Next.
  9. Review the Last Day of Work.
  10. Enter a Comment.
  11. Select Submit.

Request Compensation Change for Full‑Year Sabbatical at Half Pay

Skip this section if the sabbatical is half‑year at full pay.

  1. Open the faculty member’s Worker Profile.
  2. Select Actions.
  3. Select Compensation.
  4. Select Request Compensation Change.
  5. Enter the appropriate Effective Date.
  6. Enter -50 in the Percent Change field.
  7. Enter a Comment.
  8. Upload supporting documentation if required.
  9. Select Submit.

Return Faculty Member from Sabbatical Leave

  1. Open the faculty member’s Worker Profile.
  2. Select Actions.
  3. Select Time and Leave.
  4. Select Return Worker from Leave.
  5. Enter the First Day Back at Work.
  6. Enter the Actual Last Day of Absence.
  7. Select Submit.

Restore Compensation to Full Pay

  1. Open the faculty member’s Worker Profile.
  2. Select Actions.
  3. Select Compensation.
  4. Select Request Compensation Change.
  5. Enter the appropriate Effective Date.
  6. Enter 100 in the Percent Change field.
  7. Select Submit.

Outcome:

The faculty member is placed on sabbatical leave, compensation is adjusted as required, and full pay is restored after the faculty member returns from sabbatical.
