MathWorks: How to Renew a MATLAB License

This article explains how you renew or reactivate your MathWorks MATLAB license to avoid expiration warnings and restore full access. Use this if you see license alerts or MATLAB will not launch due to licensing issues.

Renew or reactivate your MathWorks MATLAB license so you can continue using MATLAB without interruption.

Instructions:

Update the license from within MATLAB

1. Open MATLAB.
2. Select Help from the menu bar.
3. Select Licensing.
4. Click Update Current Licenses.
5. Sign in with your MathWorks account when prompted.
6. Select the appropriate license.
7. Click Finish.

Activate MATLAB if it will not launch

1. Open the MathWorks activation client on your computer.
2. Select Activate automatically using the internet.
3. Sign in with your MathWorks account.
4. Select the correct license.
5. Click Finish.

Outcome:

MATLAB launches successfully and no longer displays license expiration or activation warnings.
