Before You Begin
Understand that we are required by federal law to post copyright information and procedures as related to the use of UofL licensed software and applications.
Review UofL policies and guidelines for compliance of copyrighted materials - including those related to codes for plagiarism and intellectual property.
Identify if your work involves copyrighted materials or intellectual property.

Instructions
Identify Copyrighted Materials
- Determine if your work includes text, images, music, software or other creative content protected by copyright.
- Review university policies for definitions and examples of copyrighted materials.
Use Copyrighted Materials Responsibly
- Obtain permission or licenses before using copyrighted content in your work.
- Follow fair use guidelines for educational and research purposes.
- Cite sources and give proper credit to original authors.
Protect Your Own Work
- Register your original works with the U.S. Copyright Office if needed.
- Use copyright notices to indicate ownership and rights.
Report Copyright Violations
- If you suspect unauthorized use or infringement, report the incident via the Compliance Hotline (1-877-852-1167), online reporting or contact the ITS HelpDesk.
- For questions about copyright compliance or intellectual property, contact the Information Security Office.
